YMSSA

This is a branding project for the Malaysian Singaporean Students’ Association at York University. The student club is a relatively small and tight-knit community that often hosts social events such as food outings and movie nights. The club is very welcoming, and has several members that are not from Malaysia or Singapore.

The concept is a modern, fun, and friendly look that captures the spirit and warmth of the club. The bright, saturated colour scheme conveys energy and playfulness and is taken from the countries’ flags.

Simplified versions of the flags for each country was used in the logo to ensure the right balance between recognizability and simplicity. The yellow circle links the flags together and symbolizes unity and togetherness.

Visual Elements

News Gothic was the chosen typeface for the wordmark as it is clean and complements the graphic elements. Iconography of a well-known landmark from each country was used (the Merlion from Singapore and the Petronas Towers from Malaysia)
